Home Exteriors Take Color Cues out of Stone

November 29, 2018Stone Standard

Stone, whether veneer, is a popular way to add texture, pattern and attention to your home’s exterior. But have you ever thought of using stone details as a jumping-off stage for a home’s exterior color palette? Maybe you should.

Since stone has a natural aesthetic, colour schemes derived from it tend to be simple and noncoerced. Whether impartial or vibrant, these schemes can work on nearly any style of home. Take colour cues from the stones themselves from grout. Limit your palette to two or three colours for a polished impact. Use contrasting trim to offset architectural information.

Use an existing stone structure as a springboard for upgrading an older home’s colour palette. Or consider incorporating simple stone attributes (chimney, columns, porch) to a newer home for some brilliant inspiration, not forgetting added depth and texture. Just be sure to check out the significant outside picture when choosing paint colours. Ordinarily, you can eliminate more deeply saturated colours outside versus inside.

Sicora Design/Build

This home’s exterior utilizes nearly every hue found in the stone veneer. The siding picks up on the slatelike blue. The front door imitates the camel-colored stone. The habit gray garage door fits into the colour scheme well. Crisp white trim sets off architectural information.

The earthy tones of the Craftsman-style home make the most of the stone exterior. Warm olive oil, deep eggplant and ivory cut — rather than white — keep this exterior feeling warm around.

Witt Construction

The handsome palette for the home’s exterior draws on the heavy jade and toasty tan located from the locally quarried granite stone details. Warm timber is added to the mix in the kind of doors.

Minnetonka Custom Homes, Inc

This high-contrast exterior features charcoal gray outlined with bright white trim. The heavy gray siding picks up on the respective grays from the stone, while the walnut-stained cedar doors deliver about another moody element.

Chioco Design

The exterior palette of the cabin was completely inspired by the colours found in the stone attributes. Warm white functions as an offsetting background to the green-brown window trimming and rust-orange doorway. In small doses and using a light background, the ’70s-like hues feel anything but dated.

The colours selected for the home’s exterior go a very long way in accentuating its design details. Taupe siding takes its color cues from the Indian Creek stone column bases. Clean white trimming and beefy white columns include contrast, symmetry and depth.

REFINED LLC

Bright and airy colour palettes are possible with stone also. Here, the light-colored gray stone sets the stage for a new gray and white colour scheme. The greens of this landscaping pop from this blank palette.

The Craftsmen Group

The shingle siding and custom garage doors of the stately home get their colour inspiration out of the stone detailing. With cream trimming added, the general feel is warm, not stark.
