Too tired to hit the shower before bedtime or a few restless nights — those scenarios and other aspects cause body odors to accumulate on your mattress, especially pillow-tops. The exact same fluffy, soft layer which cuddles one to sleep also holds heat, causes more perspiration, and keeps moisture and odors, with unpleasant scents trapped in the cotton, synthetic or wool filling. A couple of kitchen and bathroom staples, such as hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, white distilled vinegar and baking soda, remove the odor. When you’ve finished cleaning, outfit the bed with new sheets and enjoy a restful night sleep. Strip your mattress of pillows and bedding before you begin.
Give your mattress a thorough vacuuming before you begin the cleaning-and-deodorizing process. Although this won’t do a lot for the smell, it will prevent you from functioning any dust, dirt or allergens to the mattress and give a head start in cleaning. Wipe the head of the upholstery attachment using a disinfecting wipe first to avoid transferring smells from your attachment to the mattress, and vacuum the shirt and each of the sides of the bed. Pay close attention to this indentation from the pillow-top where the upholstery fulfills the most important mattress; dirt tends to gather here.
Turn all the lights in the bedroom and then scrutinize the mattress thoroughly. Should you smell any kind of odor, sweat stains are probably present as well. Treat these using a mix of two parts hydrogen peroxide to 1 component non-bleach dish soap. Combine the two ingredients in a plastic dish, and, using dabbing movements, sponge the answer on any marks using a rag. Do not over-saturate the mattress; pillow-tops tend to take longer to dry as a result of the extra stuffing, and over-wetting may cause mildew. Consider 20 minutes and then apply cold water to the treated areas with a clean rag to remove the soap residue. Areas must lighten substantially or disappear.
White distilled vinegar acts as a disinfectant, killing the main cause of several body odor issues. Fill a spray bottle with straight vinegar. Gently and evenly spray on the mattress, including the the crevice where the pillow-top fulfills the most important support base. Turn fans, open windows and then let the mattress dry completely. The vinegar smell may be overwhelming in the beginning, but it evaporates entirely once the mattress dries. Should you prefer a scent, add a few orange rinds to the vinegar-filled spray bottle and then wait about 24 hours before applying the solution to the mattress. The orange rinds leave behind a fresh scent without the possible staining of essential oils.
When you are sure that the mattress is 100-percent dry following the vinegar application, sprinkle a layer of baking soda evenly over the mattress. (If the mattress is still moist, the baking soda may cake up on the bed .) The baking soda absorbs odors and neutralizes the source of the odor. When used after a vinegar therapy, it eliminates all traces of body odor. Wait about 1 hour and then vacuum the baking soda completely. If wanted, spritz a fabric refresher over the bed gently to add a clean smell.
