Troy-Bilt pressure washers use a gasoline-engine-powered high-pressure pump to produce a powerful flow of water to clean exterior surfaces around your home. If your pressure washer is not running right, there are several things you may check out and repair yourself, perhaps saving you from having an expensive professional repair.
Verify that the gasoline engine is in running condition. Your pressure washer’s pump wo not function at all if the engine does not start. Check that there’s gasoline from the tank and the oil sump is complete. Check that the fuel valve is switched to the “on” position, the choke lever is at the “Choke” position and the throttle is at the “Fast” starting position. The engine may not start if there was high pressure left in the washer’s pump in last shutdown. Release any pressure from the pump by squeezing the trigger on the drier’s spray wand.
Check that there’s a sufficient supply of water into the washer to enable the machine to attain high pressure. If you can’t get high pressure, then verify that your water supply source is open full force, then your source hose is really a 3/4 inch or larger garden hose and that the hose is free of kinks, blockage and leaks. Also check that the water inlet filter is free of clogs. Remove a clogged filter and rub it clean in warm water.
Tighten joints of all hoses and fittings with a wrench to make sure constant pressure. Air sucked into the pump via leaky joints will lead to output pressure to vary from high to low. Other things to check if output pressure varies include a polluted water inlet filter, debris blocking the discharge nozzle and hard water deposits blocking the hose or spray wand. Clean debris from a contaminated inlet filter with clean water and remove wax debris using a fine needle. Clean hard water deposits by dipping the detergent suction tubing in household vinegar and running the vinegar under pressure through the machine.
Insert more detergent in case a check of this detergent reservoir shows it’s vacant. Dilute the detergent if it’s too thick to pass through the reservoir’s suction tubing. Other things to check if you are not getting detergent include a loose connection between the detergent suction tubing and the drier or a contaminated or damaged detergent. Tighten the detergent suction tubing connection and clean or replace a faulty suction tubing. Wash clogs from the filter atop the detergent suction tube with transparent water and be sure the spray wand is set to the detergent wash position.
