How to Repair a Drawer Slide
Most modern cabinets and vanities utilize mechanical drawer slides — metal tracks which carry wheel-like rollers — to keep drawers in line since they slip in and out. After the drawer slide or rollers become damaged or dirt and dirt accumulates in the tracks, then it doesn’t open and close properly. Once cleaned and repaired, the drawer must once again glide flawlessly. This bit of regular maintenance will not tax your DIY skills and gives you the opportunity to clean out and organize the drawer’s contents.
Remove the contents of the drawer. Then slide the drawer into the end of the slides and then lift on the drawer to pull it out away from the monitors.
Inspect all the monitors for any bent or misshapen sections. If any track damage is found, remove the screws holding the trail set up and bend the trail back to shape using a pair of pliers. If the track is too damaged to repair successfully, then replace the drawer-slide assembly.
Check all the screws on the monitors from the closet and contrary to the drawer using a screwdriver. If any of these screws are loose, remove the screw and then add a couple of drops of wood adhesive into the screw hole prior to re-tightening the screw. This keeps the screw from coming loose in the future.
Spray a bit of kitchen spray cleaner onto a clean kitchen towel and then wipe all the tracks until they are clean.
Check the condition of the rollers. If any of those wheels are damaged or the wheels have a flat border, the whole track assembly may have to be replaced. If the wheels are in good shape, apply a tiny dab of lithium grease into the axle of each roller using a toothpick.
Re-insert the drawer to the cabinet monitors and analyze the performance of the drawer. If the drawer performs as expected, then replace the contents of the drawer.
