Installing a toilet is relatively straightforward and entails just a few links that you make with regular hand tools. Always include a brand new flexible water-supply line which has integral washers and fittings when installing an upstairs toilet. Probably the hardest part of installing an upstairs toilet is getting it to the upstairs toilet. Because of this, a homeowner must enlist the assistance of an assistant to stage the toilet in the bathroom and lift it into position on the toilet flange at the ground.
Install one of these bolts out of a toilet-bolt kit at each of the slots on all sides of the toilet flange at the ground. Do this by inserting the head of a bolt into the hole at the end of a slot and slide the bolt into the end of the slot. Put one of the provided nylon washers on the top ends of each bolt and push them securely against the top rim of the flange to hold the bolts vertically at the flange.
Insert a new wax ring on the recess around the drain hole at the flange. Push down gently on the ring to bench it at the flange.
Ask an assistant to help lift the toilet bowl and align the holes at the base on each side with the bolts. Lower the bowl on the wax ring and flange. Slide one of the provided metal washers on the top ends of each bolt and thread on a provided nut at each bolt.
Tighten the nuts at equal increments with an open-end rhythm to ensure a uniform seal at the wax ring. Break off the excess threaded portion of each bolt at the top of a nut with pliers. Press one of the provided plastic trim caps over each nut.
Expand the fitting at one end of a flexible supply line onto the threaded plastic fitting on the bottom of the toilet tank. Tighten the supply line fitting snugly with an adjustable wrench. Expand the fitting at the opposite end of the line onto the threaded port at the water shutoff valve at the wall. Tighten the fitting with the rhythm.
Open the shutoff valve slowly until it’s fully on. Allow the toilet tank to fill with water. Flush the toilet and allow the tank to fill again. Refer to the setup instructions for adjusting the float level to raise the ability of a flush, even if desired.
